Capt. Mark W. Haney, a native of Fluvanna County, Va. graduated in 1998 with a bachelor’s of science degree in History and was commissioned from the U.S. Naval Academy. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2004 with a master of science in System Technology and the National War College with a master of science in National Security Strategy.
At sea, served as auxiliaries officer aboard USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53); weapons officer aboard USS Chinook (PC 9); chief engineer aboard USS McClusky (FFG 41); material and staff watch officer aboard the Nimitz Strike Group in Destroyer Squadron 23; executive officer aboard USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) and as commanding officer of USS Milwaukee (LCS 5).
Ashore he served at Naval Surface Forces Pacific, United States Pacific Command; Director, Surface Warfare Division, (N96), Office of the Chief of Naval Operations for Constellation Class Requirements; Commander, Surface Division 21, and most recently as Commander, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron 2.
Capt. Haney’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Navy Commendation Medal (five awards).
