Cmdr. Jeffrey Chewning

J. Chewning is a native of Germantown, Maryland, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2005 with a degree in International Relations. His Division Officer tours were as a Deck Divo in USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) in Yokosuka, Japan, and as Damage Control Assistant in USS Gettysburg (CG 64) in Mayport, FL. As a Department Head, he served as the Chief Engineer in USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) in Rota, Spain. He served as Executive Officer, then Commanding Officer of USS Dextrous (MCM 13) homeported in Manama, Bahrain from 2015 to 2017. He then served as the Executive Officer onboard USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80).

Shore assignments include Joint Fires Strike Officer for COMUSNAVCENT/COMFIFTHFLT in Manama, Bahrain. He conducted a twelve-month GSA as an Officer-in-charge of the Iraqi Training and Advisory Mission-Navy (ITAM-N), in Umm Qasr, Basrah Province, Iraq. CDR Chewning taught at SWOSCOLCOM in Newport, RI. as an International SWOS instructor and a lead developer for the new Basic Division Officer’s Course (BDOC). Most recently he served as the Operations Officer for Commander, Task Force SIX FOUR (BMD) at COMSIXTHFLT, in Naples, Italy, as a qualified Regional Air Defense Commander Representative (RADC-REP).

CDR Chewning has an MBA from Saint Leo University and an MA in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He is a Halsey BRAVO graduate and holds qualifications in JPME I & II.
