Command Master Chief Ervin J. Kelly was born and raised in Gary Indiana. He reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL, in August 2000 where he began his career as an Information Systems Technician. He was selected to the CSEL program in 2020.
He has served in several sea duty assignments including USS BOONE (FFG-28), USS SIMPSON (FFG-56), and USS NEW YORK (LPD-21).
His previous shore tours include service at major staff commands to include Commander Navy Reserve Forces Command, Navy Personnel Command, Coastal Riverine Group Two Training and Evaluation Unit as well as a tour at Navy Operational Support Center Washington DC. He completed his first CSEL tour at Navy Reserve Center Pearl Harbor.
He completed four shipboard deployments in the Second Fleet AOR in support of counter narcotic operations, and two shipboard deployment to the Fifth and Sixth fleet AOR in support of operation Noble Eagle.
Kelly has earned an Associates of Science degree in Computer Network Systems and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Information Technology. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (class 203/purple), and CMC/COB course (class 21010), and has been awarded the Meritorious Service medal, Navy Commendation medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (five awards), and various other personal and unit awards.
