 Command Master Chief John Tucker is a native of Ellicott City, Maryland. He entered the Navy through the Delayed Entry Program and arrived for basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes in August 1999. 

Tucker's source rating was an Intermediate level Aviation Electronics Technician (ATI).  His career duty assignments include: USS TRENTON (LPD-14) where he worked as an Aviation Boatswains Mate (Fuels) until he struck ATI. He then reported to Patrol Squadron (VP) 26 where he completed two deployments as an Intermediate technician on Communication and Navigation equipment for the P-3 ORION. Upon completion he received orders for Instructor Duty at the Center for Surface Combat Systems (Great Lakes) ultimately earning his Master Training Specialist qualification. Upon completion of that tour he was selected to the US Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron (Blue Angels) where he ran their Avionics shop and Maintenance control.  After his time with the team he screened to serve as the AT rating detailer at Navy Personnel Command.  Heading back to the fleet he received orders to Patrol Squadron (VP) 16 and completed three deployments (two to the 7th Fleet and one 6th Fleet AOR’s). In 2017 he was selected into the Command Master Chief program and served in his first Command Master Chief tour at Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron HM-15 operating out of the 5th Fleet AOR. He then reported to USS HOPPER (DDG-70) homeported out of Pearl Harbor HI serving her and her crew from February 2021 until his transfer in February 2023.  Master Chief Tucker assumed the duties and is currently serving as Command Master Chief for Commander Naval Surface Squadron FIVE located in Manama Bahrain since February 2023.
 
He holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Organizational Leadership.  He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 203) and Command Leadership School (Class 187). His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various other unit awards. Tucker is authorized to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist as well as the Aviation Warfare Specialist breast insignias; he is also a designated master training specialist.
