Commander Curtis L. Thomas II is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. He is a graduate of Morehouse College where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program. He also holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School.
A career surface warfare officer, Commander Thomas’ shipboard assignments include: USS COLE (DDG 67) as First Lieutenant, Ordnance Officer, and ship’s Navigator, USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) as Operations Officer, AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON FOUR (CPR 4) as Future Operations Officer, and USS ANZIO (CG-68) as Commanding Officer. In his most recent sea duty assignment, he served as Executive Officer of USS Billings (LCS 15) Gold.
Ashore, he served as Operations Officer for Counter Rocket Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM) Battalion 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, Operational Test Director for LHA-6 and LPD-17 class ships at COMOPTEVFOR, and Plans and Schedules Officer for COMNAVSURFLANT.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Army Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
