Lt. Cmdr. James Mather II

LCDR Mather is a native of Wahoo, NE. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in May, 2001 as an Aircraft Mechanic. LCDR Mather deployed four times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom from 2002-2006. Following the Marine Corps, James enlisted in the Naval Reserves and worked at BNSF Railroad as a Conductor. In 2008, he applied for the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program and was accepted to the University of South Carolina, receiving his B.A. degree in History in 2010 and attended OCS in January, 2011.
James’ Division Officer tours were on USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) and USS STOUT (DDG 55). Ashore, served as the Maritime Warfare Lead Instructor for BDOC Norfolk. James earned his Master of Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School in September, 2018.
James reported to USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) in March, 2020 as the Weapons Officer. He fleeted up to Combat Systems Officer in August, 2021 and currently serving as the Executive Officer.
LCDR Mather’s awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and various other unit awards and citations.
