 Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Stephen Ray is a native of Baytown, TX. He is a 2012 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and is a designated Surface Warfare Officer.

His first sea assignment was onboard USS ELROD (FFG 55) as Combat Information Center Officer and First Lieutenant. While onboard ELROD the ship maintained SECOND Fleet AOR presence and completed a SIXTH Fleet Deployment in support of African Friendship and Fire Scout Operations. His second sea tour was onboard USS TYPHOON (PC 5) as Operations Officer and Navigator. During his tenure onboard TYPHOON, the ship maintained FIFTH Fleet AOR presence ensuring regional stability through maritime security operations. He returned to sea as the Operations Officer onboard USS MICHAEL MURPHY (DDG 112) home ported in Pearl Harbor, HI where he completed a FIFTH Fleet deployment as the Theater Air Defense Commander for the AOR. Most recently he served as Executive Officer aboard USS SENTRY (MCM 3) forward deployed in Manama, Bahrain. He assumed command in April 2024.

Ashore, he served as a Lead Instructor and Course Coordinator for Advanced Navigation at the United States Naval Academy. He received his Yard Patrol Craftmaster Officer in Charge qualification while instructing Midshipmen in Navigation and Shiphandling.

His decorations include Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit awards with great crews.
