Captain Michael Johnson is a native of Summerville, South Carolina. He received his commission in 1998 upon graduation from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Health Science. He completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase I and earned his Master’s in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2010 from the Naval War College. At sea, he served onboard USS AUSTIN (LPD 4) as the Main Propulsion Division Officer, USS STUMP (DD 978) as Navigation and Administrations Officer, USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19) as Combat Systems Officer, and USS BATAAN (LHD 5) as Training and Navigations Officer while completing a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf. He commanded USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43) from 2015 through 2017. Ashore, he served as the Assistant Current Operations Officer to Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Future Operations, Surface Operations Officer to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans, Policy and Exercises to Expeditionary Strike Group SEVEN, and as the Joint Forces Coordination Division Chief to Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff. Captain Johnson is currently slated to assume command of Littoral Combat Ship Surface Division TWO ONE in Mayport, Florida in March 2023. Captain Johnson’s decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
