 A native of Watertown, New York, Commander Slye graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering.
 
At sea, Slye’s operational assignments have been in guided missile destroyers and cruisers.  He served as Strike Officer, Fire Control Officer, and Visit, Board, Search and Seizure Officer in USS HIGGINS (DDG 76); Operations Officer in USS NITZE (DDG 94); and Operations Officer in USS VELLA GULF (CG 72).
 
Ashore, Slye served as a Naval Science Instructor at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, and as the wargaming portfolio action officer on the Navy Staff (OPNAV N5), supporting innovative strategic concepts, naval strategy, and operational doctrine.  He was also the Executive Assistant to the Navy Chief of Legislative Affairs.  His most recent role was Executive Officer of USS MUSTIN (DDG 89).
 
CDR Slye holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security Studies from the Naval War College, and a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
