Cmdr. Elliott P. Skiles

CDR Elliott Skiles is a native of Evansville, Indiana and was commissioned in July 2006 through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Technical and Professional Communication from Southern Polytechnic State University and a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.
At sea, CDR Skiles served as a Surface Warfare Officer in guided-missile destroyers, cruisers, and nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. His division officer tours include Communications Officer on USS Hué City (CG 66) during two U.S. Fifth Fleet deployments and Reactor Mechanical Division Officer on USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) during her mid-life Refueling Complex Overhaul. As a department head, he served as Operations Officer on USS Carney (DDG 64) during her homeport shift to Rota, Spain and two U.S. Sixth Fleet patrols, including participation in Operation Odyssey Lightning. CDR Skiles subsequently served as Reactor Training Assistant on the forward-deployed USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) during the course of four Western Pacific patrols.
Ashore, CDR Skiles served as Shift Engineer on the ex-USS Sam Rayburn (Moored Training Ship 635) at Nuclear Power Training Unit Charleston, and most recently he was assigned as Director of Officer Department at Nuclear Power School where he oversaw the initial academic instruction and professional development for all officers and civilians chosen to serve as operators in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
CDR Skiles has proudly served on teams who earned the Battle “E”, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Arizona Memorial Trophy which recognizes the fleet’s most combat-ready surface ship. He is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals.
