  Master Chief Horney is a native of Washington State. She joined the Navy in April 2002 and attended Machinery Repairman “A” School in Great Lakes, IL. Upon completion of “A” School, she reported to USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), where she had the distinct honor of commissioning her, making her a plankowner. She earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualifications and completed a six month deployment to 5th Fleet as well as a surge deployment also to 5th Fleet. She was meritoriously advanced to First Class Petty Officer and after serving on the REAGAN for 5 years, reported to Navy Personnel Command where she worked as the MR E1-E5 and “C” School Detailer. 

After her shore tour, she reported to Portsmouth, VA to attend Advanced Machining “C” School and it was there as a student where she advanced to Chief Petty Officer. Once she completed training, earning the U31A NEC (advanced machining), she reported to USS SHILOH (CG 67) in Yokosuka, Japan. While there, she led ER09 and Repair Division through a successful INSURV, 3M Inspection, MCI, and numerous underway evolutions in support of national security. Following her tour on USS SHILOH, she reported to Southeast Regional Maintenance Center in Mayport, FL where she was the Machinery Product Family Leading Chief Petty Officer. While there she earned the NAMTS Inside Machine Shop NEC U33A and was selected to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. She graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 202 while stationed at SERMC.

Her next sea tour was 3MC of USS CARNEY (DDG 64) in Rota, Spain. While there she led the ship through a successful 3M Certification and as INSURV Coordinator, through a successful RE-6 and INSURV. Additionally, she completed 5 Mediterranean, Black Sea, and 5th Fleet patrols, culminating with the circumnavigation of Africa. While onboard, she completed the Professional Locksmithing and GSA Inspector and Certification Courses at Lockmasters Security Institute in Nicholasville, KY, earning the 829A locksmith NEC. She took the ship from Rota, Spain to her new homeport of Mayport, FL prior to transferring to Afloat Training Group Western Pacific. While in ROM, prior to reporting to ATGWP, she was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. At ATGWP, she earned her Afloat Training Specialist (ATS) and 3M Team Lead qualifications. Master Chief Horney was selected as a Command Master Chief in 2022 and was selected to report to USS PAUL IGNATIUS (DDG 117), homeported in Rota, Spain.

She graduated from Thomas Edison State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Literature.

Master Chief Horney’s personal awards include the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement medal (2 awards), and various other unit and service awards.
