 Commander Shanece Kendall was born in Merced, California and reared in England, Oklahoma and Virginia. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Naval Postgraduate School in 2008 with a Master of Science Degree in Operations Research with honorary thesis distinction, and University of Maryland University College in 2015 with a dual Master of Science in Information Technology (Project Management Specialization) and Business Administration.

As a Surface Warfare Officer, Commander Kendall completed her division officer tours in USS THE SULLIVIANS (DDG 68) as the Auxiliaries, Electrical and Combat Information Center Officer and USS COWPENS (CG 63) as the Damage Control Assistant and Radiological Control Officer. For her department head tours, she served as the Operations Officer in USS LASSEN (DDG 82) and Chief Staff Officer/N3 in Destroyer Squadron Fifteen. During her sea tours she made one homeport shift from Japan to Florida and six deployments spanning missions in across all Fleets in support of South China Sea Operations, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Standing NATO Maritime Group Two, Ballistic Missile Defense, Counter Drug Operations and as Air Defense and Sea Combat Commander under George Washington and Ronald Reagan Strike Groups. Ashore, Commander Kendall was the Deputy Director of the Coalition Coordination Center under Combined Maritime Forces at Naval Forces Central Command, responsible for operations in support of integrated and coordinated counter-piracy operations for CTF 150, 151, and 152. While there, she obtained her Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.

She served as the N3/N5 at Military Sealift Command Europe-Africa / Commander Task Force 63, an Exercise Planner and Battle Watch Captain at Sixth Fleet, and a Gender Advisor at Naval Forces Europe and Africa Command. Commander Kendall’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Gold Stars), Joint Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Stars) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
