Cmdr. Robert Ireland, a native of Florida, is a 2005 graduate of University of South Carolina where he earned his commission and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2010 with a Master of Science in Systems Technology (Joint C4I), and also completed the Naval War College Joint Professional Military Education Phase I curriculum.
Ireland’s sea duty assignments include: Communications Officer, Navigator and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure Officer aboard USS Hawes (FFG 53); Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer aboard USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81); and most recently, Executive Officer aboard USS Vella Gulf (CG 72).
Ashore, Ireland’s assignments include: Current Afloat Readiness Action Officer in the Fleet Electronic Warfare Center (N45) for Commander, Navy Cyber Forces and Fleet Implementation Action Officer for the Director, Navy Special Programs Division (OPNAV N9SP), and in the Commander’s Action Group for Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic.
Ireland’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with four Gold Stars), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal as well as multiple unit and service awards. He is a 2016 recipient of the Navy and Marine Association Leadership Excellence Award from Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic.
