A native of Beaumont, Texas, CAPT Nakamura earned a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1997. She earned a Masters of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
At sea, she served as the Strike Officer in USS VELLA GULF (CG 72), Reactor Electrical then Reactor Controls Division Officer in USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), Operations Officer in USS COLE (DDG 67), and Reactor Training Assistant in USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). She completed deployments as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in USS NITZE (DDG 94) and served as Reactor Officer in USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69). She assumed command of USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58) in April 2022.
Ashore, CAPT Nakamura was assigned to the Chief of Naval Personnel, Diversity Directorate; Commander, Naval Air Force, Atlantic (CNAL), as Maintenance Coordinator for USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69); Officer-in-Charge of the CNAL Surface Nuclear Power Mobile Training Team; and Military Assistant to Deputy Chief of Staff, Strategic Plans and Policy, at NATO Headquarters, Supreme Allied Command Transformation.
She has earned the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and other personal, unit, and campaign awards.
