 A native of Henderson, Kentucky, CDR Turpin graduated and commissioned from the United States Naval Academy in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering.  He earned a Masters of Science in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2014. 
CDR Turpin’s first sea assignment was as the Fire Control Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer in USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52) homeported in San Diego, CA from December 2007 to February 2010.  His second division officer tour was as Weapons Officer/XO in PC Crew HOTEL from April 2010 to February 2012 deploying twice to the Middle East in support of Operation New Dawn.  He served his first department head tour as Chief Engineer in USS DEXTROUS (MCM 13) as part of FDNF Bahrain from April 2015 to May 2016.  CDR Turpin’s second department head tour was as Chief Engineer in USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55) homeported in Norfolk, VA from September 2016 to June 2018 where he deployed in support of SIXTH Fleet operations above the Arctic Circle.  He reported to USS McFAUL (DDG 74) as Executive Officer in July 2023. 
 
Ashore, CDR Turpin served as Branch Head, PERS-452 Allocations and Statistics Branch at Navy Personnel Command and was responsible for releasing PCS orders and managing the $702M MPN annual PCS budget.  Afterwards, he assumed duties as the PERS-46 Training and Administration of the Reserves Surface Junior Officer Detailer and Naval Reserve Center Placement Officer responsible for the career monitoring of all TAR SWO, SUB, SEAL, and EOD junior officers as well as NRC placement for 123 commands.  CDR Turpin’s most recent shore assignment was at Engineering Assessments Atlantic where he was responsible for Basic Phase certification events on surface ship diesel and gas turbine engineering plants. 
 
CDR Turpin’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various service campaign and unit decorations.
