LCDR YI, a native of Tacoma Washington, graduated from University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2011. After graduation he assigned to his first ship, USS BULKELEY (DDG84).
LCDR Yi was stationed in Norfolk, VA onboard USS BULKELEY (DDG 84) for his first Division Officer tour, serving as the Electrical Officer, where he deployed twice to 5
th Fleet AOR. For his second tour Division Officer billet was the Navigator onboard USS COLE (DDG67) where he completed his third deployment in the 6
th Fleet AOR.
Ashore, he served as an Navigation instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School Unit, Great lakes. His responsibilities included being Navigation instructor, Chief Engineer, Legal Officer, and the Administrative Officer. While performing his duties, LCDR Yi completed his Master of Arts in human resource development and management and leadership from Webster University. His awards include two Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy Achievement Medal, and various individual, unit, and campaign awards.
As a Department Head, he served onboard USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL as the Weapons officer where he completed a COVID 2020-2021 deployment to the 5
th Fleet AOR.
