 LCDR Tyree Barnes is a native of Hampton, Virginia.  He graduated from the United States Naval Academy earning his Bachelor of Science in Economics and commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer in May of 2009. 

LCDR Barnes' first Division Officer tour was onboard USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66), where he served as the Electronic Warfare Officer and Assistant Operations Officer onboard.  There, he independently deployed once to 5th Fleet AOR for Counter Piracy Operations. His second Division Officer tour was onboard USS LABOON (DDG 58) as the Training Officer and Assistant Operations Officer where he independently deployed to 6th Fleet AOR in support of BMD Operations Ashore.  For his shore duty, LCDR Barnes effectively filled the role of a EDO billet for Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Newport News.  He served as the Combat Systems Project Supervisor for USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) Refueling Complex Overhaul from August 2013 - April 2016. During that assignment he successfully earned his Acquisition Production, Quality, and Manufacturing AQD. 
 
After completing Department Head School, LCDR Barnes reported to USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56) as the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer from March 2017 until June 2019.  Upon selection to Early Command, he served as Executive Officer aboard USS SENTRY (MCM 3), from February 2020 until April 2021 before assuming command in June 2021.
 
Personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
