Master Chief Petty Officer Cotherman is a native of Cocoa Beach Florida. He enlisted in the United States Navy in October of 1991, received basic training at Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida.
Master Chief Cotherman’s previous commands include, USS Saratoga CV-60, USS Paul Hamilton DDG-60, USS Cole DDG-67, USS Bulkeley DDG 84, Center for Surface Combat Systems, Detachment Norfolk, USS Philippine Sea CG 58 where he served as Combat Systems Maintenance Manager and was selected to Master Chief Petty Officer, US Naval Central Command where he served as Maritime Operations Center Senior Enlisted Leader, Center for Surface Combat Systems, Detachment Mayport where he served as Senior Enlisted Leader.
He is currently serving as Combat Systems Maintenance Manager and Acting Command Master Chief on USS Philippine Sea CG 58.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (1 gold star), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three gold stars), as well as other unit and campaign awards.
