A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Captain Megan Thomas earned her commission through the Pennsylvania State University NROTC program in 1997. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
Captain Thomas’ previous sea assignments include Commanding Officer and Executive Officer of USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99); Main Propulsion Assistant, USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65); Operations Officer, USS MITSCHER (DDG 57); Reactor Propulsion Division Officer, USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73); and Ordnance Officer, USS MILIUS (DDG 69) during the ship’s maiden deployment. Ashore, she most recently served as the Branch Head for Surface Nuclear Assignments at Navy Personnel Command. She has also completed tours as a Surface Warfare Officer Post-Department Detailer, a member of the Commander’s Action Group at Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic and the OCS Distribution Branch Head at Commander, Navy Recruiting Command Headquarters.
She has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals (3 awards), and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards).
