 LCDR Omari D. Buckley, a native of Harrisville, Mississippi, enlisted in the Navy in July of 1997. After attending Operations Specialist “A” school, he served in USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) from 1997 to 1999. He was selected and attended the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program and graduated from Old Dominion University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. 

Afloat, Buckley served his first tour as 2nd Division Officer in USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50) from December 2004 to October 2006. After completing the AEGIS pipeline, he served as Fire Control and Combat Systems Officer in USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) from October 2006 to December 2008. Following Department Head Training, he reported as Weapons Officer in USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55) from October 2012 to October 2013. He served as Combat Systems Officer in USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) from July 2014 to July 2016.   

Ashore, LCDR Buckley attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California in 2009 and earned a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, he earned a Master of Science in Defense Technology and Systems from the National University of Singapore.

Additional ashore, he served in the Director for Joint Force Development (J7) from July 2016 to September 2019. His most recent tour was in the Surface and Mine Warfare Division Command, Amphibious Warfare Division in Little Creek, VA as a Warfare Tactics Instructor. 

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
