A native of New Jersey, Commander Daniel Reiher attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in History and receiving his commission in 2001.  CDR Reiher received a Master of Science degree in Information Warfare Systems Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA in 2007, and also completed his Joint Professional Military Education Phase 1 from the Naval War College.
 
Afloat, his first assignment was aboard USS HUE CITY (CG 66) as Gunnery Officer, and then later as the Force Protection Officer, deploying in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2002.  In April 2004, CDR Reiher reported to USS BATAAN (LHD 5) as the Fire Control Officer.  In January 2009, CDR Reiher reported to USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96) as the Chief Engineer, deploying to the Horn of Africa in support of Counter-Terrorism and Counter Piracy Operations.  Subsequently, he assumed command of Patrol Coastal Crew FOXTROT, deploying to the Arabian Gulf in USS SIROCCO (PC 6) in support of Operation NEW DAWN in 2011.  In April, 2018, CDR Reiher reported as the Executive Officer in USS SIOUX CITY (LCS 11), GOLD Crew and served as the Commanding Officer from August 2019 until December 2020.  During this time SIOIUX CITY completed her maiden deployment to 4th Fleet in support of Enhanced Counter-Narcotic Operations.  Currently, CDR Reiher is serving in sequential command as Commanding Officer, USS WICHITA (LCS 13) as the East Coast training ship for the MCM Mission Package.   
 
Ashore: Following his first command tour, CDR Reiher reported to the United States Naval Academy as the Deputy Chairman for the Seamanship and Navigation Department. In July, 2014, CDR Reiher reported to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, J-35, Joint Operations Directorate for U.S. Central Command as an Operations Officer specializing in the Levant region. 
 
CDR Reiher's awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards.
