Cmdr. Jamie Joe Diaz is a native of Texas and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1996. He was commissioned via the Iowa State University Navy ROTC program in 2003, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing. Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.

Afloat, Diaz’s assignments have included: First Division Officer and Repair Division Officer aboard USS Ogden (LPD 5), where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and earned his Surface Warfare Officer designation: Operations Officer assigned to MHC Crew Inflict and MHC Crew Excel, where he served aboard USS Oriel (MHC 55), USS Black Hawk (MHC 58) and USS Pelican (MHC 53), and earned his Engineering Officer of the Watch and Tactical Action Officer qualifications; Combat Systems Officer and Operations Officer assigned to LCS Crew 103, during which time he pre-commissioned the USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) and was part of her maiden U.S. 7th Fleet deployment in 2015. Additionally, he was selected to fill a gap aboard USS Freedom (LCS 1) and also deployed on her maiden deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet in 2014 as the Combat Systems Officer.

Ashore, Diaz’s assignments have included: Force Navigator at Commander Naval Surface Forces, where he volunteered for an IA to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, where he served as the USA Civil Affairs OIC for Djibouti, Djibouti, and forward deployed as the USA Civil Affairs OIC for Dira Dawa, Ethiopia; Lead Project Officer at Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic with N44 Readiness Assessments department, where he volunteered for an IA to Commander, U.S. 5th Fleet as Commander Task Force 51/5 Battle Watch Captain in support of Operation Restore Hope; and, as Executive Officer for Afloat Training Group Norfolk.  

Diaz is a 2008 graduate of the USA Civil Affairs Course. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), and numerous unit and campaign awards.
