Commander Brian Anthony was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He spent a year at the Naval Academy Prep School before attending the United States Naval Academy where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in General Science in 2003. He received his Masters of Science in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2010.
Afloat, his initial sea tours were in Norfolk, Virginia aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) where he served as CE, A, and MP Division Officers and aboard USS Halyburton (FFG 40) as the Damage Control Assistant. Subsequent sea tours were in San Diego as the Engineer Officer onboard USS Gridley (DDG 101) and Yokosuka, Japan as the Plans/Exercise Officer at Destroyer Squadron Fifteen (CDS 15), where he worked closely with the Korean Navy, Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, Royal Australian Navy, and Indian Navy.
Ashore, Commander Anthony attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He also served as Deputy Executive Assistant to Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Warfare Systems (N9). Most recently, CDR Anthony served Executive Officer on USS Winston S. Churchill.
CDR Anthony assumed the duties as Commanding Officer USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) in November 2021.
CDR Anthony’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), the Combat Action Ribbon, and various service and campaign awards.
