Cmdr. Timothy Shanley, a native of Maryland, graduated with Honors from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science; subsequently he was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO).
Shanley’s sea duty assignments include service aboard USS Cape St. George (CG 71), USS Farragut (DDG 99), the staff of Destroyer Squadron 60, and USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81).
Ashore Shanley has served as a Surface Warfare Officer Master’s in Business Administration recipient at the University of Rochester’s William E. Simon Graduate School of Business, a staff member at the Missile Defense Agency (Washington, D.C.), a Congressional Fellow on the Capitol Hill staff of Congressman Jim Cooper, a Navy Congressional Appropriations Liaison for Shipbuilding, working with both the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, and as the Associate Director of the Vice Adm. Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership at the U.S. Naval Academy.
While receiving his MBA from the University of Rochester he was elected and served as President of the Financial Management Association (FMA) of the Simon Graduate School of Business. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four Gold Stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star. In 2012, he was selected as the recipient of the U.S. Navy League’s Stephen Decatur Award for Operational Competence.
