Commander Greg Piorun, a native of Sedalia, Missouri, enlisted in the United States Navy in 2004 after graduating from Central Missouri State University with a BS in Aviation Technology. He completed Recruit Training at RTC Great Lakes, Illinois and Nuclear Field ET “A” School, Nuclear Power School, and Nuclear Prototype in Charleston, South Carolina. After completion of Nuclear Prototype, he was selected for Officer Candidate School and commissioned January 19, 2007.
His afloat tours included USS Wasp (LHD 1) as OI Division Officer, USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) as Fire Control Officer, USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) as Weapons Officer then Combat Systems Officer, Destroyer Squadron 22 as Staff ASW Planner and Plans and Tactics Officer, and USS ANZIO (CG 68) as Commanding Officer.
Shore assignments include the Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit, Dam Neck Virginia as a Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missile instructor, and as the initial Combat Systems and C4I officer (N6) at Commander Naval Surface Group Western Pacific.
CDR Piorun holds a master's degree in National Security Affairs.
His decorations include Meritorious Service Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, as well as various Unit citations.
