Capt. Kevin J. Hoffman

A surface warfare officer, Capt. Hoffman is a native of St. Marys, Pennsylvania, and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in organizational management from George Washington University.
At sea, he served as strike officer, first lieutenant, and navigator aboard USS O’Kane (DDG 77) from 1998 to 2002. Capt. Hoffman later served as weapons officer and combat systems officer aboard USS Vicksburg (CG 69) from 2005 to 2008. Capt. Hoffman reported to USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) as executive officer in 2014 and subsequently commanded USS Jason Dunham from 2015 to 2017.
Ashore, Capt. Hoffman participated in the Navy Washington DC Internship Program (NWIP) from 2002 to 2004, with rotation in the Joint Staff (J4), OPNAV (DEEP BLUE), and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He also served as assistant deputy director and deputy director for Flag Officer Management and Distribution (N00F) in Washington, D.C., from 2008 to 2011. Capt. Hoffman later served on the Joint Staff, J5, Trans-Regional Policy, as an action officer in the Missile Defense, Cyber, and Maritime Security Policy Divisions from 2011 to 2013. He most recently served as executive assistant to the Director, Surface Warfare (OPNAV N96).
He has served on teams that have been recognized with numerous awards and is the recipient of the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
Capt. Hoffman assumed command of USS Philippine Sea in June, 2020.
