 Cmdr. Benjamin Cantu, a native of Maryville, Tennessee, is a 2004 graduate of Auburn University, where he earned his commission and a Bachelor of Arts in History.  

Cantu’s sea duty assignments include: Gunnery Officer and Auxiliaries Officer aboard USS Mason (DDG 87); Operations Officer aboard HSV 2 SWIFT (Blue Crew); Operations Officer aboard USS Gridley (DDG 101); Operations Officer aboard USS Princeton (CG 59); and most recently, Executive Officer aboard USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55).   

Ashore, Cantu’s assignments include: Surface Warfare Junior Officer Assignment and Distribution Officer at Navy Personnel Command; and Action Officer on the OPNAV Staff for the Director, Military Personnel Plans and Policy (N13).
