Commander Zieroth was born in Chehalis, WA. He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1995 as a Fire Controlman where he later commissioned under the Seaman to Admiral 21 program in 2007 after 12 years of enlisted service. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maine, a Master of Arts in Security Studies from the Naval War College and is completing a Master of Science in Program Management from the Naval Postgraduate School. His at-sea assignments include Main Propulsion and Weapons Officer aboard USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42); Damage Control Assignment aboard USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73); Weapons Officer aboard USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96); Commanding Officer aboard USS TORNADO (PC 14), and Material/Logistics Officer (N4) at Carrier Strike Group TEN.
His shore assignments include N72 Fleet Training at Surface Warfare Officer School, Executive Officer at Training Support Command Hampton Roads, and Operations Officer at Assault Craft Unit FOUR.
He served as the Executive Officer aboard USS FORREST SHERMAN (DDG 98) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. Previously, he served a three-year term on the Surface Navy Association Board of Directors (2021-2024) and actively participates within the Hampton Roads Chapter.
He currently is serving as the Commanding Officer on board USS FORREST SHERMAN (DDG 98).
Personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards).
