Command Master Chief David W. Sandeen is a native of Lanesboro, Iowa, where he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, June 1986. After completing Recruit Training in Great lakes, Illinois, he reported to Data Processing Apprenticeship School, followed by Naval Intelligence Processing Systems Training Facility. His first duty station was aboard USS Forrestal (CV 59).
Sandeen completed his active duty enlistment at Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) in 1991. He served in various reserve units in Iowa and Wisconsin until his return to active duty in May 2000, when he reported to USS Nassau (LHA 4) as an Information System Technician.
Sandeen's other assignments include Navy and Marine Corps Internet (NMCI); Command Standing Navy Combat Element, where he deployed to Combined Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa; Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Detachment Pacific Command; USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93); North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Communications and Information Agency (NCIA); and most recently, Command Master Chief aboard USS Bainbridge (DDG 96).
His academic accomplishments include Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course, Graduate of the United States Air Force Senior Non-commissioned Officer Academy 2012 (Class 12-D), and Chief of the Boat/Command Master Chief Course Class (188).
Sandeen's military decorations include the Joint Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
