Cmdr. James Hagerty is a native of Baldwin, New York, and a 2003 graduate, with merit, of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he earned his commission and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. In 2008, he earned a Master of Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Hagerty’s sea duty assignments include: First Lieutenant aboard USS Shiloh (CG 67); Training Officer aboard USS Chancellorsville (CG 62); Flag Lieutenant to the Commander, Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group; Operations Officer aboard USS Higgins (DDG 76); N3/Operations Officer at Destroyer Squadron 7; and most recently, he reported as the Executive Officer aboard USS Bainbridge (DDG 96), July 2020.

Ashore, Hagerty’s assignments include: Flag Aide to the Director, Surface Warfare Division (OPNAV N86); Surface Warfare Congressional Liaison (OPNAV N96); and Deputy Legislative Assistant for the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
