A 2005 graduate of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program from Purdue University, Commander Walters earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana.
A career surface warfare officer, Commander Walters’ shipboard assignments include: USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) as Communications Officer, USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81) as Damage Control Assistant, USS MILIUS (DDG 69) as Weapons and Combat Systems Officer, and USS JAMES E. WILLIAMS (DDG 95) as Executive Officer. Ashore, he is a graduate of both the Naval Postgraduate School and United States Naval War College. After completing the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Warfare Tactics Instructor course, he was the Director of Officer Training at the Aegis Training Readiness Center. Most recently, he served at Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic leading Type Commander Material Inspections.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
