Commander Katrina Stegner is a native of Arlington, Texas. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Geology from the University of Kansas in 2007 and a Master of Science in Human Resource Development from Villanova University in 2014.
At sea Commander Stegner served in the Norfolk based Guided Missile Destroyer USS LABOON during her 1
st Division Tour as the 1
st Division Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and during her 2
nd Division tour served as Navigator where she completed a SIXTH and FIFTH FLEET Deployment supporting SNGM-2 Deployment and a FIFTH FLEET Deployment supporting Counter- and Anti-Piracy Operations. Her first Department Head tour was as the Operations Officer in the Guided Missile Destroyer USS NITZE where she completed a FIFTH FLEET Deployment in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. Her second department head tour was as the N3 / Operations Officer in COMDESRON TWO SIX where she completed a FIFTH and SIXTH FLEET Deployment in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. Most recently she served in USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66) as the Executive Officer from August 2022 through November 2023.
Her shore assignments include Operations Officer at the Military Entrance Processing Station Omaha, NE and N32 Readiness Officer in COMMANDER, NAVAL SURFACE FORCE ATLANTIC in September 2018. Commander Stegner’s last shore assignment was N3 / Operations Officer in COMMANDER, AFLOAT TRAINING GROUP ATLANTIC.
Commander Stegner’s personal awards include: Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and various other unit awards.
