A Middletown, New Jersey native, Robert Molinaro is a 2007 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the Naval Post Graduate School Executive MBA program.


CDR Molinaro’s sea tours include USS ELROD (FFG 55) where he served as Communications Officer, Auxiliaries Officer, Anti-Submarine Weapons Officer, and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) Officer and completed a Western Africa, Baltic Sea, and Artic Ocean deployment in support of NEPTUNE WARIOR, Africa Partnership Station, and Operation Enduring Freedom.


For his second Division Officer Tour he served in USS NITZE (DDG 94) as Navigator and VBSS Officer. During his time on NITZE, he deployed to 6th and 4th Fleet in support of JOINT WARRIOR and as flag ship for UNITAS LANT, respectively.


His Department Head tours were served in USS LABOON (DDG 58) and USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55). On LABOON, CDR Molinaro served as Operations Officer and fleeted up to Combat Systems Officer in support of a 5 th and 6th Fleet Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) deployment. LABOON was BMD Commander for George Herbert Walker Bush (GHWB) Strike Group and supported Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR).


In LEYTE GULF, he served as Operations Officer, again deploying with GHWB Strike Group in support of OIR conducting various operations from the Artic Ocean to the Arabian Gulf to include duties as Sector and Air Defense Commander.


CDR Molinaro’s shore tours include the United States Naval Academy as a Seamanship and Navigation Instructor where he earned his Small Boat OIC Craftmaster Qualification and in the Special Programs Division (OPNAV N9SP), responsible for Surface Warfare and Strike Weapons Special Access Program Requirements, Oversight, and Assessments.


For his most recent shore duty, he was a Resource and Requirements Officer for several program offices, and Special Programs lead for the Surface Warfare Division (OPNAV N96). During his OPNAV tours he earned his 6511Q subspecialty in Resource and Requirements Management and was appointed the Navy’s lead for Long Range Fires Offensive Kinetic Weapons for the CNO’s NAVPLAN Implementation Framework by N9, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfighting Requirements and Capabilities

Commander Molinaro’s personal awards include the Arleigh Burke Award for Inspirational Leadership, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), and the Navy Achievement Medal (2), as well as various unit awards.
