Crossman is a native of Fayston, VT and Kinnelon, NJ, a graduate of ADM Farragut Military Academy HS (1992) and the US Naval Academy (1996) with a BS in Political Science. He earned a 2003 Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Norwich University, is a 2010 Georgetown Congressional Fellow, a 2011 graduate of the NATO Defence College, Rome Italy, and a 2019 graduate of the Eisenhower School with a MS in National Resourcing Strategy.
His initial sea tour was in the USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG 51) in Norfolk VA and Pascagoula MS as the Ordnance Officer and Legal Officer deploying with the JFK Battlegroup. His second sea tour was with Beachmaster Unit ONE (BMU-1) as Officer-In-Charge, deploying with the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Readiness Group (ARG) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU SOC), conducting Operation Southern Watch from Camp Udari Kuwait and the Kabal in Qatar as well as East Timor Humanitarian Assistance Operations, earning the qualification as a Small Craft Officer in Charge. His third sea tour was in the USS MASON (DDG 87) as the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer, deploying three times to the Arabian Gulf and Horn of Africa with the HARRY S. TRUMAN and EISENHOWER Strike Groups conducting Maritime Security Operations in support of the Global War on Terror, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom as well as anti-piracy patrols with Combined Task Force 150, twice consecutively earning the Battle ‘E’. His fourth sea tour was as Executive Officer of the AEGIS Destroyer USS CARNEY (DDG 64) in Mayport FL, earning the Battle ‘E’. His fifth sea tour was as Commanding Officer, USS CARNEY (DDG 64), completing an 8-month independent Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) deployment to the Arabian Gulf conducting Theater and Maritime Security Operations, serving as the BMD Warfare Commander for 5th Fleet, winning the 2014 Battle ‘E’, and the 2015-16 Arizona Memorial Trophy for the top ship in the Navy in Strike, NSFS and ASUW warfare areas.
Ashore Eddie served at Naval ROTC Unit Norwich University in Northfield VT as a Naval Science Instructor and the regional officer recruiter. Additionally, he served as Flag Aide to the Commander USSOUTHCOM and served as Special Assistant to the Commander USSOUTHCOM for Congressional Affairs. He has also served as Defense Fellow to Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), the ranking member of the Senate Seapower Subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee, maintaining the Senator’s Defense, VA Affairs and MILCON portfolios. His last shore tour was at the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs as Deputy Director for Navy Programs, overseeing the Surface and Expeditionary Warfare portfolios to Congress.
