Commander Puskas is a native of Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University and commissioned through the NROTC program. He also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Naval Post Graduate School.
Commander Puskas enlisted as a Nuclear Machinist’s Mate in 1993 and after graduating from Prototype, he completed an instructor tour where he received an NROTC Scholarship. Upon commissioning and completion of the Surface Warfare Officer School Division Officer course, in Newport, Rhode Island, he reported to USS Normandy (CG 60). In Normandy from 2002 through 2004 he completed a Mediterranean deployment and served as the Repair Division Officer and Ships Maintenance and Material Officer. He then reported onboard USS Ramage (DDG 61) from 2004 to 2006. There he served as the ship’s Training Officer.
Commander Puskas’ department head tours, from 2010 through 2013, included Chief Engineer tours in USS Mitscher (DDG 57) and USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55). In Mitscher he completed a deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and New Dawn. In Leyte Gulf he supervised their major modernization availability and subsequent follow on trials and training cycle.
Following his department head tours, Commander Puskas served as the Cruiser Lead Assessor at Engineering Assessments Atlantic and in September of 2015 he took command of USS Gettysburg (CG64). He was the forefront of her journey through the SLEP process and prepared her for reactivation through multiple Industrial availabilities.
