 Cmdr. Samuel D. Higginbotham is a native of Wesson, Mississippi, and a 2004 graduate of Norfolk State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Sociology. 
 
Higginbotham’s sea duty assignments include Chief Engineering Officer aboard USS Barry (DDG 52), Engineering Project Officer aboard Engineering Assessments Atlantic, and First Lieutenant, Auxiliaries Officer, Damage Control Assistant, and Executive Officer aboard USS Mahan (DDG 72).
 
Ashore, Higginbotham served at Destroyer Class Squadron (DDGRON), Director of Engineering Training (N82) at Afloat Training Group Norfolk (ATGN) as the Director of Engineering Training (N82), and Training and Standards Director (N7) for Afloat Training Group Atlantic (ATGLANT). 
 
Higginbotham has also obtained a Master of Science in Financial Management. Higginbotham’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (1), Navy Commendation Medal (6), and the Navy Achievement Medal (4), as well as various unit awards.
