A native of Ocala, Fla., Cmdr. Daniel Virgets graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English.  He is also a graduate of the United States Naval War College with a Master of Arts with Distinction in Defense and Strategic Studies.

Afloat, Virgets completed his division officer tours aboard USS Lake Eerie (CG 70) as the Gunnery Officer and USS Ponce (LPD 15) as the Auxiliaries Officer.  As a Department Head, he served as Combat Systems Officer aboard USS Ford (FFG 54) and Operations Officer aboard USS Anzio (CG 68).

Ashore, Virgets served in the N75 Future Operations Directorate at United States Fleet Forces Command, as the Director of Training at Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific, and as the Command Assessment and Major Command Course Coordinator at Surface Warfare Officers School.  

Virgets’ personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
