Cmdr. Brett Litchfield

Cmdr. Brett Litchfield, a native of Sullivan, Ky., graduated from Union County High School in 1986. He enlisted in Aug. 1990 as a Fire Controlman and was commissioned in 2002 through the Limited Duty Officer program. In 2006, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York in Business Management. He laterally transferred to Unrestricted Line Officer in 2007.

His enlisted sea assignments include USS Seattle (AOE 3), USS Aubrey Fitch (FFG 34), and USS Philippine Sea (CG 58). He completed four deployments, including two Standing Naval Force, Atlantic deployments and led Philippine Sea’s Tomahawk Strike Team in planning and executing numerous strike missions after 9/11 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Upon commissioning, he served as Systems Test Officer on USS Porter (DDG 78) and USS The Sullivans (DDG 68). During his tours onboard Porter and The Sullivans, he completed three deployments in support of Operation Active Endeavor. As Department Head, he served as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer on USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). He completed a Scan Eagle deployment and Roosevelt earned back to back Battle “E” awards.

His ashore tours include serving as Combat Systems Director for Afloat Training Group Mayport, Naval Integrated Fire Control – Counter Air (NIFC-CA) lead at the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Division, and as Officer in Charge for the Center for Surface Combat Systems Detachment Mayport.

His most recent assignment was as Commanding Officer on USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116).

Litchfield has a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (eight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards) and various other service, unit and personal awards.
