At sea, he served aboard USS Ashland (LSD 48) as 1st Division Officer and 1st Lieutenant, aboard USS Normandy (CG 60) as Navigator, aboard USS Mahan (DDG 72) as Operations Officer, aboard Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 as the N3, and most recently as Executive Officer of USS Cole (DDG 67). He has made seven deployments to the 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Responsibility.
Ashore, he served as an instructor at Ohio State University NROTC where he completed an Individual Augmentee assignment to Al Asad, Iraq. He then served as Atlantic Sealift Operational Support Element OIC. Next he was Aide to Commander Naval Surface Force Atlantic, then Aide to Commander Sixth Fleet and Striking and Support Forces NATO. He is a Distinguished Graduate of Marine Corps Command and Staff College and graduate of the Joint and Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various campaign and service awards.
