Michael J. Johnson

A native of Louisiana, Cmdr. Mike Johnson graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In January 2001, he received his commission through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.

His initial assignment was in USS Chosin (CG 65) serving as the main propulsion officer. After earning his Surface Warfare Officer qualification he served as training and readiness officer in USS Chafee (DDG 90).
 
Cmdr. Johnson spent his first shore duty as the COVE and ship handling lead for N72 at Surface Warfare Officers School Newport, R.I.  There he earned a Master’s degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University and attended the Naval War College, where he completed the Fleet Seminar Joint Professional Military Education Phase I curriculum.
 
Upon graduating department head School in 2009, he reported to Yokosuka, Japan for duties as chief engineer in USS Lassen (DDG 82). He then served as senior readiness officer and N4 in Destroyer Squadron TWO in Norfolk, Va.  Following sea duty, he served as the afloat safety officer lead and AUXO ELECTRO Lead for N74 at Surface Warfare Officers School Newport, Rhode Island.  Cmdr. Mike Johnson completed his executive officer tour in USS San Jacinto (CG 56), served as commanding officer in USS Billings (LCS 15) and future plans officer (N5) and training officer (N7) with Littoral Combat Ship Squadron TWO.  He is currently assigned as chief staff officer, Naval Surface Squadron FOURTEEN.
 
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various service and campaign awards.
