Richard M. Meyer
Capt.

Capt. Meyer is a native of Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Nuclear Power Program in 1989 and was later accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated and received his commission in 1994.
Capt. Meyer’s assignments at sea include division officer tours aboard USS VELLA GULF (CG 72) as DCA and strike officer and the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron EIGHTEEN as the surface operations officer. He completed his department head tour as a plank owner aboard USS MASON (DDG 87) serving as the operations officer through the ship’s maiden deployment. Capt. Meyer completed his executive officer tour aboard USS SHILOH (CG 67) from 2007 to 2010 in Yokosuka, Japan. He commanded USS JOHN L HALL (FFG 32) from February 2011 through the ship’s decommissioning in March 2012.
Capt. Meyer’s assignments ashore include surface targets and sinking exercise officer for Commander, US Atlantic Fleet (N73); requirements officer for ballistic missile defense on the staff of director, Surface Warfare (OPNAV N86); Navy Air and Missile Defense Command deputy operation officer for Fleet Support; Missile Defense Agency – Service and Warfighter integration branch (Navy, STRATCOM, NORTHCOM); current operations director on the staff of Commander, US FIFTH Fleet and most recently as branch head for destroyer requirements at OPNAV N96. Capt. Meyer reported as the deputy commander, Naval Surface Squadron FOURTEEN in June 2018.
Capt. Meyer’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and various unit and service awards.
Capt. Meyer took command as the Commander, Naval Surface Squadron FOURTEEN on 3 April 2020.
