Capt. Samantha Dutily is a native of Waltham, Mass., and a 1997 graduate of Regis College in Weston, Mass. where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. She received her commission through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Pensacola, Fla. in January 2000. She earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University, Fla. in 2006.
Afloat, Capt. Dutily served as Gunnery and later as Strike Officer in USS JOHN YOUNG (DD 973); plankowner and training officer in USS MUSTIN (DDG 89); operations officer in USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) and USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56); executive officer and commanding officer in USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79); deputy commander at Naval Surface Squadron FIVE.
Ashore, Capt. Dutily served as N333 Current Surface Operations and later as administrative assistant to Deputy Chief of Staff N3/N5 at U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF); operations officer and later as director of training at Maritime Civil Affairs and Security Training (MCAST) Command; tactical action officer (TAO) mentor/evaluator at Afloat Training Group (ATG) Norfolk; deputy executive assistant (DEA) to the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF).
In June 2020, Capt. Dutily assumed Command of Naval Surface Squadron FIVE (CNSS-5) in Manama, Bahrain.
Her personal decorations include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
