Cmdr. Brad Tonder is a native of Alabama. Enlisting in March, 1992, Cmdr. Tonder served enlisted tours of duty onboard USS MARYLAND (SSBN 738) Blue where he earned his Silver “Dolphins” and Nuclear Power Training Unit, Charleston.   

His afloat commissioned assignments include Gunnery Officer, Ordnance Officer and Force Protection Officer onboard USS JOHN L HALL (FFG 32); Assistant Material and Readiness Officer (N4A) on Amphibious Squadron ELEVEN; Operations Officer onboard USS TORTUGA and USS GERMANTOWN; and N3 on Amphibious Squadron ELEVEN and most recently as Executive Officer, USS SIOUX CITY (LCS 11) Gold.  

Ashore, he earned his Masters in Business Administration from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA; served as Operations Officer for Naval Forces Iraq/Task Force IA in Baghdad, Iraq; Commanding Officer Navy Operational Support Center, Louisville, KY; Branch Chief, Reserve Affairs Headquarters United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany.

Cmdr. Tonder’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal; Joint Achievement Medal; Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
