Cmdr. Joseph Caldwell received his commission from Officer Candidate School after graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and is a graduate of the Argentine Naval War College.
His previous sea duty assignments include Communications Officer aboard USS Reuben James (FFG 57), Reactor Propulsion Division Officer aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), Combat Systems Officer aboard USS Boxer (LHD 4) and Reactor Training Assistant aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). His most recent assignment was Executive Officer of USS Detroit (LCS 7) Blue Crew.
Ashore, Caldwell has served as Instructor and Class Director at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, DDG 1000 Requirements Officer on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, Surface Warfare Directorate (OPNAV N96), Defense Resource Manager on the Joint Staff (J8), and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Resources and Acquisition.
Caldwell’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and other campaign, service, and unit awards.
