Matthew Molmer

Cmdr.

24 September 2020 Commander Matthew Molmer, a native of Georgia, served 11 years of enlisted service as a Fire Controlman before being commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program.  He graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1999. He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Modeling and Simulation from the Naval Post Graduate School.
Commander Molmer assumed his duties as Commanding Officer of Afloat Training Group Mayport in July 2020. In his most recent assignment, he served as the Executive and Commanding Officer in USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80).
 
He completed his Division Officer tours forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan in USS COWPENS (CG 63) as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Navigator, deploying multiple times to SEVENTH and FIFTH Fleet.  His Department Head tours were in USS ANZIO (CG 68) as the Weapons and Combat Systems Officer, deploying to both SIXTH and FIFTH Fleet.  
 
Commander Molmer’s shore assignments include the Maritime Homeland Defense Staff at USCG Atlantic Fleet Headquarters in Portsmouth, VA, Commander’s Action Group at Naval Surface Force Atlantic in Norfolk, VA and Current Operations Directorate at SIXTH Fleet in Naples, Italy.
 
Commander Molmer’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), US Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various campaign and unit awards.
