Mr. Peter Morford
Deputy Director, Afloat Training Group Atlantic

Mr. Pete Morford was sworn into Federal civil service in May 2014 as Deputy Director, Afloat Training Group Atlantic (ATGLANT) in Norfolk, Virginia. In this role, Mr. Morford serves as second-in-command to the ATGLANT Commander. ATGLANT is comprised of more than 400 training professionals among four commands in Norfolk, Virginia, and Mayport, Florida. ATGLANT’s experts execute all aspects of unit-level training for the crews of the more than 80 surface ships and aircraft carriers of the Atlantic Fleet across 22 different mission area specialties.
Prior to his Federal service, Mr. Morford served in the US Navy as a nuclear-trained surface warfare officer deploying aboard eight ships, including three aircraft carriers, two frigates, a destroyer, and two amphibious ships based in five homeports on both coasts and Japan. His sea tours included assignments as Commanding Officer, USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43) in Sasebo, Japan; Reactor Officer, USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in San Diego; and, Commander, Amphibious Squadron THREE embarked in USS PELELIU (LHA 5), also in San Diego. Ashore, Mr. Morford’s assignments all involved training, and included duty as Commander, Afloat Training Group Pacific in San Diego; Director of Fleet Training Policy at US Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia; and as an Anti-Submarine Warfare Instructor, where he earned designation as a Master Training Specialist. Mr. Morford is also a registered Project Management Professional (PMP).
Mr. Morford graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Mr. Morford also holds a Master’s degree from The George Washington University in Human Resource Development, as well as a certificate in nonprofit management from the Tidewater Community College.
