Capt. Chris DeGregory, a Massachusetts native, is a 1991 graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he earned his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Course at the College of the Holy Cross. He holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. and a Master of Arts degree (with distinction) in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

His division officer tours were aboard the USS Denver (LPD 9) and at Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 1. As a department head, he served as the chief engineer aboard the USS Stethem (DDG 63) and USS Elliot (DD 967). He served as the commissioning executive officer of the USS James E. Williams (DDG 95); chief staff officer for Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 26, which was embarked on the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75); commanding officer of the USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), which rescued the hijacked motor vessel Guanabara by removing four Somali pirates and then escorting the vessel to a safe port; and commanding officer of the USS Monterey, which completed a seven-month deployment to U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility as the ballistic missile defense commander for the Dwight D. Eisenhower carrier strike group.

Ashore, DeGregory commanded Afloat Training Group, Norfolk and served as chief of current operations for U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida. His most recent assignment was as the chief of staff for Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 4, from July 2017 to May 2019, where he conducted deployment certification exercises for carrier strike groups, amphibious ready groups and independent deployers.

His military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
