Command Master Chief Jorge A. Reyes-Velez, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, graduated from San Pedro Martir High School in May 1988. He enlisted in the United States Navy and reported for Basic Training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois in June 2000. Upon completion he reported to Aviation Electricians Mate “A” school in Pensacola, Florida.

His first assignment was to Patrol Squadron (VP) 4 at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he served as a quality assurance representative on P-3C aircraft electrical, navigation, and instrument systems. He then attended Automated Electrical Component Test System (AECTS) operator and maintainer “C” school in Cherry Point, North Carolina, in-route to his assignment with  Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 24 in Kanehoe Bay, Hawaii. During his tour he served as production controller, and avionics department leading petty officer (LPO).

He then reported to Patrol Squadron (VP) 40 in Oak Harbor, Washington, where in 2009 he was appointed to the rank of chief petty officer. His assignment included: electrical branch chief, maintenance chief, and quality assurance supervisor. Following this assignment he served at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN), Rhode Island, as a recruit division commander where he led nine Officer Candidate School divisions, two Officer Development School classes, and one Direct Commissioning Officer Indoctrination class on becoming naval officers. He then reported to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 211 in support of Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12 where he was selected as command master chief in 2015.

Command master chief tours include Fleet Readiness Center Western Pacific, Atsugi, Japan, where he guided a diverse group of military and civilian personnel in six dispersed geographical locations to success. He is currently serving aboard USS Cole (DDG 67).

Master Chief Reyes-Velez is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 184) and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course. He has earned a baccalaureate degree from Hawaii Pacific University in business administration.

His personal awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Iraqi Campaign Medal (two awards), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and various other unit and campaign awards.
