USS Cole 20th Commemoration Ceremony

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the attack on USS Cole (DDG 67), a remembrance ceremony will be held pierside at Naval Station Norfolk, at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 12.

The ceremony will feature guest speakers Adm. Christopher W. Grady, commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command; Adm. Robert J. Natter, retired, commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet/ Fleet Forces Command from 2000-2003; and Cmdr. Edward Pledger, current Cole commanding officer; along with as a Roll Call of Heroes; a wreath laying; honors; and a commemorative flyover.

Special guests in attendance will include the 17 Gold Star families of the Sailors killed in the Oct. 12, 2000 attack; the Cole heroes who saved their ship and current Cole crewmembers.

Media interested in covering the ceremony in-person must RSVP by 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5.

COVID-19 restrictions will apply and be implemented, in accordance with Virginia guidance and law, and Department of the Navy policies in effect for Monday, Oct. 12. More specific guidance on this will be provided no later than Friday, Oct. 9.
