Mission Statement
To serve as the Executive Agent for Commander Naval Surface Forces Atlantic (CNSL) for Force Generation with a focus of Manning, Training and Equipping (MTE) surface ships to provide the operational and component commanders with combat ready surface forces capable of conducting prompt and sustained naval, joint, and combined operations in support of U.S. national interests.

History
Commander, Naval Surface Group Southeast (CNSG-SE), is the type commander (TYCOM) executive agent in Naval Station Mayport and the administrative Immediate Superior in Command (ISIC) for guided-missile destroyers homeported at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida. CNSG-SE's roots go back to the establishment of the original Destroyer Squadron Fourteen.

Destroyer Squadron 14 was established in November 1920 as a reserve organization in Philadelphia, PA. The squadron's last Commodore before being disestablished in 1931 was the future Fleet Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey. Destroyer Squadron 14 was reestablished as a unit in the Pacific Fleet and performed duties in the Aleutian Islands Area. During the Battle of Komandorski when confronted by a Japanese force of eleven ships, three destroyers of DESRON 14 daringly attacked the enemy to cover the withdrawal of other U. S. units. DESRON 14 units also participated in the Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands, and Borneo operations. The Squadron was decommissioned at the end of World War II and was recommissioned in October 1946 and homeported in Newport, Rhode Island.

The squadron then became the first Destroyer Squadron to be homeported at Naval Station Mayport when it was moved in June 1959 and has since remained at NS Mayport.

CNSS-14 was established on 31 July 2015 by merging DESRON 14 and Cruiser Destroyer Readiness Support Detachment Mayport. CNSS-14 was initially stood up to streamline command and control (C2) between the ships in Mayport and Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic (TYCOM) in Norfolk. Five different entities were brought together, including: Coastal Patrol (PC) maintenance repair team, Waterfront Medical Detachment, and the Operational Ministries Center. In addition, CNSS-14 provided support for cruisers and amphibious ships when they were stationed at Naval Station Mayport.

CNSG-SE was established on 07 November 2023, and was previously Commander, Naval Surface Squadron 14 (CNSS-14).

In November 2023, CNSS-14 changed names to CNSG-SE to reflect changes in the roles and responsibilities, aligning with broader changes in multiple fleet concertation areas. CNSG-SE is directly responsible for the training, inspections, and readiness of the following ships: USS RAMAGE (DDG 61), USS CARNEY (DDG 64), USS THE SULLIVANS (DDG 68), USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75), USS LASSEN (DDG 82), USS MASON (DDG 87), USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99), USS JASON DUNHAM (DDG 109), USS THOMAS HUDNER (DDG 116), USS DELBERT D. BLACK (DDG 119), and USS JOHN BASILONE (DDG 122).
